COACHELLA KIDNEY INSTITUTE

Together the doctors, along with Orr Builders and the agencies, were able to create an attractive timeline and package of incentives that greatly accelerated the Center's development in the city. As a result, there will be a much-needed new kidney dialysis facility available for the Coachella residents and new well-paying jobs and additional tax revenues have been created.

The Aerobics expansion has been the most complicated and challenging project of the three. The aerobics facility is a 900 square foot addition which doubles the size of the existing aerobics room. The general construction materials and methods used for the storage facility were also used on the aerobics building.

Dr. Shekar, a prominent physician, located here in the Coachella Valley, demonstrates his continued support for the Coachella Valley as well as the City of Coachella as evidenced through his newly completed Coachella Kidney Institute.

Citizens of Coachella and the other east valley cities are now travelling to Indio, Palm Desert, and Rancho Mirage for their renal care. "We felt that a facility closer to home will be most convenient and comfortable for the patients. We are hoping that Coachella Kidney Institute will serve this purpose.", stated Dr. Shekar.

This is a state-of the art facility in all aspects with the latest equipment and technology. The clinic's environment is very comfortable and soothing to the patients, who receive their treatment for 3-4 hours, three times a week. Hence the treatment room is equipped with comfortable seating with audio-visual comforts as well. Renal dialysis is a life sustaining therapy and the facility is equipped to provide all modalities of renal replacement therapy including in-center hemodialysis , peritoneal dialysis, nocturnal dialysis and home dialysis.

The new street improvement plan on Sixth Street made this project financially feasible by eliminating duplication of costs involved. The project was constructed in conjunction with all the utility companies' cooperation and instrumental assistance from the City of Coachella. Brian Orr and Dr. Shekar would like to extend warmest appreciation to all of the public utility agencies, IID, City of Coachella Water, Time Warner and Verizon also having played a role in bringing this fine project to the citizens of the Coachella Valley and specifically those citizens of the City of Coachella.

Our development and construction team greatly appreciates the efforts of IID and their commitment to keeping costs as low as possible and working diligently to expedite their work and in coordination with the City's street improvement projects which ran simultaneous with the Coachella Kidney Institute.

From an economic development perspective, I am extremely excited to see a private investor, investing in an Enterprise Zone community said Mark Weber, Manager of the Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone. The City of Coachella, like the City of Indio, has invested in its downtown in recent years, and this building is helping set the standard for new development along Sixth St. in Coachella. As a former Chairperson of the Coachella Chamber of Commerce, it is great to see investment occurring in the heart of the city. Healthcare services are growing to meet the needs of our growing population and as an industry sector, healthcare, has seen consistent job growth over the past 10 years (up over 38%) to a record of over 12,000 positions, with over 600 in 2011 alone. These are good paying jobs with benefits. Weber further stated, "As a community stakeholder, it is nice to see this critical medical service located so close to the people in need of the service."

Linda Evans (Bender), Director, Physician & Community Development stated, "JFK Memorial Hospital is proud to see one of its own practicing physicians investing in the community of Coachella. Dr. Shekar's work to serve the eastern Coachella Valley through the new "Coachella Kidney Institute" is a fine example of the commitment our doctors have for providing quality healthcare to communities in need."

Mayor Eduardo Garcia commented that, "Dr. Shekar, as a JFK physician and a private entity, has made this investment in our community. As you can see, this is an impressive building and as the first major, private, new construction in the downtown area, it is helping set the standard for new development along Sixth St. in Coachella."
